Faculty
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is comprised of faculty members that are dedicated to teaching, scholarship, research and mentoring. Our faculty are dedicated to student-centric teaching, of both undergraduate and graduate students, and these events occur in the classroom, teaching labs, research labs, and other areas. We facilitate the natural connections between teaching and mentoring, enabling students of all levels to flourish and develop skills that will lead to success throughout life. Not only are we dedicated to teaching, but also to leading cutting-edge research in which both graduate and undergraduate students can engage. Furthermore, our faculty have won numerous awards and been prestigiously recognized for their teaching, research, and more. The University has recognized our research successes of 10 faculty members into the Duquesne Research Hall of Fame. Our faculty members specialize in one or more of the five traditional fields of chemistry: Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. We also take pride in the incorporation of an emerging and important field of chemistry in our research and teaching, that being Green Chemistry. Moreover, our faculty have interdisciplinary strengths in Biomolecular, Computational, Materials and Environmental Chemistry, taking us to the frontiers of chemical research and its applications. Lastly, we also have faculty members whose primary research focus is chemistry education to further hone their skills to educate in the lecture and teaching lab settings.
