The Substance Use Disorder Certificate Program: Treatment & Alternative Approaches to Pain Management is the second in a series of certificate programs designed to assist health care practitioners in the management of substance use disorders. Program participants will gain an appreciation of the appropriate use of opioids, equianalgesic dosing and opioid tapering strategies, non-opioid and non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management, naloxone rescue administration, emergency department response to overdose scenarios, behavioral and pharmacological approaches to substance use disorders including the induction and use of buprenorphine and methadone, and harm reduction strategies. The program is comprised of online home study modules and live programming components.* The online home study modules and the live programming session total 19 credit hours of ACPE-approved continuing education content. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program. Completion includes Part I and Part II as well as the post-program assessments for each part of the program:

  • Self-study activities (12 hours)
  • Live interactive seminar (7 hours)
  • Post-program assessments and evaluations for Part I and Part II

This is a two-part certificate program. You must complete Part I (advance online study) prior to attending Part II (live programming component).

Cancellation Policy

Reservations for the program cannot be held until the registration fee is received. Cancellations received in writing (via email) at least seven days prior to the program will receive a refund minus a $25 cancellation fee if participant did not access Lecture Panda. If the participant accessed Lecture Panda, a refund minus a $75 cancellation fee will be provided. Please contact the program coordinator if you need to cancel your registration.

Duquesne University reserves the right to cancel the program at any point in time. In that event, each participant will be notified via email and a full refund will be made.
