Duquesne University School Of Pharmacy Partners With Allegheny County Health Department REACH For Allegheny Program
The Duquesne University School of Pharmacy has partnered with the Allegheny County Health Department's REACH for Allegheny Program to help address disparities in African-American communities.
The REACH program, a CDC-funded initiative, aims to achieve health equity and prevent chronic diseases in the East End (East Hills, Garfield, Homewood, Larimer, Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar, Wilkinsburg), Hill District, Mon Valley (Clairton, North Versailles, Duquesne, McKeesport, North Braddock, Rankin) and the Northside.
Dr. Jennifer Elliott is leading the School of Pharmacy's efforts, which include helping at COVID-19 testing clinics set up at the Northside Christian Health Center and East Liberty Family Health Center; partnering with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh to offer free chronic disease screenings and nationally recognized health management programs (diabetes prevention, smoking cessation, self-monitoring blood pressure, etc.) at all Housing Authority locations; and working with the Allegheny County Health Department to offer flu clinics at various sites.
Additionally, Dr. Elliott is working with schools to determine how to offer asthma screenings and clinics virtually and in-person with increased safety protocols.
