Duquesne University School of Pharmacy Pharm.D./MBA Dual Degree Program

According to the National Community Pharmacists Association, independently-owned pharmacies made up nearly 35 percent of all retail pharmacies in the United States in 2019. Earning your Pharm.D. through the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy enables you to understand the business. Earning your MBA through the School of Business ensures you understand how it operates.

The dual Pharm.D./MBA program requires only one additional semester after the completion of the six-year Pharm.D. program through credit-sharing.

Logan Graham"After about a month of working at a pharmacy consulting firm, I realized that is what I wanted to do," Logan Graham, a student pharmacist enrolled in the Pharm.D./MBA Dual Degree Program, says. "I began scouring LinkedIn, seeing the pathways others took to get into similar roles. I paid attention to my coworkers and their unique pathways and skill sets. After all of this research I was able to find one common theme among those in positions I aspired to obtain one day–a great business mind. I also noticed businesses hiring employees with MBAs to help run businesses primarily comprised of pharmacists. I started thinking about the MBA program. After careful consideration, I decided that the MBA program would be best for me and my goals. My thought is that even if it does not land me my dream job immediately, it is always something I will have in my back pocket that could help me advance to that dream job faster as a 'double threat' in the sense that I will be able to practice pharmacy through a clinical lens but also be able to address the business aspect."

Completing the dual Pharm.D./MBA program allows student pharmacists to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to enter leadership positions, including operations management and finance, and the managerial ability necessary to function in a changing health care environment increasing the marketability of graduates entering the workforce.
