Free Flu Vaccines Available On Campus

Duquesne University Times

One of the best ways to stay protected from the seasonal flu is to get an annual flu shot. The Center for Pharmacy Care makes this preventive measure convenient by offering employees participating in any of the University's medical plans free vaccinations during walk-in clinics across campus or by appointment at the center.

This year, walk-in clinics are scheduled for:

Wednesday, Oct. 2, and Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Health Service office on the second floor of the Union
Monday, Oct. 7, and Monday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 101A of the Bayer Learning Center.

Additionally, immunizations are available by appointment Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Center for Pharmacy Care in the Muldoon Building at 1000 Fifth Ave.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals ages 6 months and older should get a yearly flu vaccine. It takes just two weeks after receiving the flu vaccination for the body to develop an immune response.

"This is a really important service we're able to offer the campus community," said Dr. Suzanne Higginbotham, director of the Center for Pharmacy Care. "It's one of the best ways to help prevent illness during the flu season."

In addition to the flu vaccine, the Center for Pharmacy Care also offers University plan members the following free immunizations:

Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis).

Employees with medical benefits from other carriers are eligible for these immunizations by completing their medical plan's paperwork.

Contact the Center for Pharmacy Care at 412.396.2155 or email to set up an appointment or for more information.
