PPA Announces Dr. Jamie McConaha as recipient of the NASPA Excellence in Innovation Award
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association (PPA) recently recognized Jamie McConaha, PharmD, BCACP, CGP as the winner of the NASPA Excellence in Innovation Award sponsored by Upsher-Smith Laboratories, Inc., during PPA's 2015 Annual Conference held at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg-Hershey on October 3, 2015, in Grantville, PA.
The Excellence in Innovation Award recognizes a pharmacist who is involved in an innovative pharmacy practice resulting in improved patient care.
A 2007 graduate of Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy, Jamie McConaha serves as a professor at Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy as well as being involved in two practice sites. She divides her time between a regional grocery store chain pharmacy, Giant Eagle, and a primary care physician practice. While at Giant Eagle, she has implemented many services such as Day 1 Therapy Counseling, Pediatric Callbacks, Aisle Talks, travel immunization clinics, and other screenings. In her primary care physician site, she is working to establish pharmacy services for 34 board-certified physicians across 16 practice locations. She has also developed a transition-of-care service. McConaha assists many practice sites in fulfilling their accreditation requirements.
McConaha maintains and delivers certifications to pharmacists so that they can provide better patient outcomes. These include programs for diabetes, immunization, and medication therapy management. She has started a tobacco cessation group counseling program, "Courage to Quit," as she is a Tobacco Treatment Specialist.
McConaha is also an active pharmacy advocate. She attends Pharmacy Legislative Day in Harrisburg, PA each year, sponsored by PPA. She is also on many committees in PPA, which continue to advocate for the profession.
