Team Led By Dr. Jordan Covvey Releases Second Edition Of a Casebook for Public Health in Pharmacy
Covvey, along with Vibhuti Arya, Natalie DiPietro Mager, Neyda Gilman, MaRanda Herring, Leslie Ochs and Lindsay Waddington, made up the team of editors for the casebook.
This casebook, an updated edition of the 2020 release, is a collaboration of over 90 individuals with expertise and training in public health pharmacy. A total of 54 chapters are presented, covering a broad array of topics relevant to pharmacy applications of public health. These topics include, but are not limited to, cross-cultural care, health literacy and disparities, infectious disease, health promotion and disease prevention, medication safety, structural racism, advocacy/policy analysis, chronic disease, women's health, rural health, travel medicine and more.
Like the first edition of the casebook, the editorial team and chapter authors represent colleges and schools across the country and were organized through the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Public Health Special Interest Group (SIG), a group of pharmacy educators interested and engaged in all aspects of public health practice including clinical activities, research, teaching and service. The book is designed to allow educators and/or students to choose relevant or interesting chapters, as each chapter is independent from the others. Each chapter contains learning objectives and an introduction to the topic, followed by a case and questions. The chapter closes with commentary from the authors and patient-oriented considerations for the topic at hand. An instructor manual is also available to support faculty using this text.
