PGY1 Community Practice Pharmacy Residency

Klingensmith's Drugstore Community Pharmacy Residency Program, is a one year, post Phar.D. residency which goal is to provide a pharmacist with the knowledge and skills to be able to perform enhanced clinical pharmacy services in a community pharmacy or ambulatory care setting. The residents will be taught the skills necessary to develop and maintain advanced clinical services in a community setting. The resident will have exposure and gain experience of all Klingensmith's Drugstore enhanced pharmacy clinical services which goal is to improve outcomes for both patients and it's partnering health care providers. In addition, the resident will be exposed and educated on the economics in a community pharmacy setting.

Klingensmith's Drugstore is an 8-store independent family-owned chain located in rural communities, covering 3 counties (Armstrong, Clarion and Indiana) in Western Pennsylvania (40 miles north of Pittsburgh). Klingensmith's Drugstore has been in business for over 78 years and has been owned and operated by the same family since 1972. Klingensmith's Drugstores are full-service community pharmacies that provide prescriptions, over-the-counter products, home health aides. The resident will be part of the following enhanced pharmacy clinical Services: Medication Synchronization/Adherence Program, Medication Therapy Management Services, Immunizations, Diabetes Education, Pain Management, Men's Health Program, Bedside Delivery (Transitions of Care Program).

Klingensmith's Drug Store employs 25 pharmacists and is a member of the National Community Pharmacy Association. Klingensmith's Drugstores currently serves as an Academic Teaching Partner with Duquesne University's School of Pharmacy and is part of the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Clinical Integrated Network.
