Information for African Students

Duquesne University has a strong and long-standing history in Africa.  

Our current efforts include: Our on-campus Center for African Studies; our community of Spiritan priests throughout Africa; and, our Commitment to Africa that plays a prominent role in University's Strategic Plan.  Every year, we welcome to our campus students from African countries such as Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Nigeria, and more.

Application Information

  • African students should submit original transcripts from their high schools and any university work. 
  • Students from Anglophone systems in West Africa must submit the WAEC scratch card method to verify their grade results for admission.
  • Students from Francophone countries should submit their grades reports from every year of secondary school, and evidence of high school completion such as the Bac along with their final exam results.
  • Please bear in mind that documents from Africa can often take a while to reach our office, so plan your application accordingly. Applicants may send scanned documents for initial evaluation, but must send original certified copies to finalize any admission decision.  

Applicants from Nigeria:  You must send us a copy of the front and back of your WAEC Scratch Card. Our office will verify your results online directly from the Internet.

Applicants from Cameroon:  Please obtain a WES or ECE Evaluation Report of your transcripts. This report is quick and easy to obtain and can be sent to us within less than two weeks of you supplying the necessary materials to WES. You can visit their website at or

Africa: A Core Value and Strategic Goal 

One of the goals of the University's 2010-2015 Strategic Plan is a new emphasis on Africa and the African diaspora. This emphasis extends outreach efforts that have been going on since 2008:

  • Academic program collaborations with Spiritan parishes, schools and hospitals in nursing, health sciences, pharmacy, education and theology.
  • The newly established, interdisciplinary Center for African Studies expands emphasis on Africa within the cirriculum
  • Charitable contributions of educational, medical and other supplies in Spiritan-served areas throughout Africa
  • Environmental and sustainability research, consulting, teaching exchange and study abroad programs
  • Theology programs through schools and institutes in several countries, preparing Duquesne graduates in Africa to influence the world.
