Alumni Insights: Marijuana and The Workplace: What's New for 2022

For our next installment of our #DuqAlumniInsights series, we'll hear from Cara A. (Murphy) Fialkoff, L'13, as she shares her expertise with employers and business owners on recent cannabis law changes that effect the workplace. This Alumni Insights program will be moderated by Jeanine L. DeBor, J.D., A'89, Director of Law Alumni Relations and Development at Duquesne.

The presentation will review the implication of expanded state and local cannabis policies and guidelines in connection with workplace regulations and will guide employers and business owners on how to navigate the often changing landscape of cannabis law.

Cara A. (Murphy) Fialkoff is Counsel with Santomassimo Davis LLP in Parsippany, New Jersey and concentrates her practice in complex commercial litigation. She has represented corporate and individual clients in a variety of litigation with a particular emphasis on construction, automobile financing, and financial services. She has experience in all aspects of litigation, including discovery and motion practice in both state and federal courts, as well as American Arbitration Association arbitration, mediation, and trials.

Cara earned her Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law. While in law school she interned in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas for the Honorable Kathleen R. Mulligan and the Honorable Thomas E. Flaherty. She was also the Executive Content Editor of the Duquesne Environmental Health Law Journal, writer for The Juris Magazine, and Public Interest Law Fellowship Recipient. Cara graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania where she was a member of the Women's Golf Team. Cara is also active in her community as a member of both Duquesne University's and Muhlenberg College's Young Alumni Councils. She also serves as an advisor for the Phi Kappa Chapter of Phi Mu at Muhlenberg College and New Jersey Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Take Steps Executive Committee Member.

Jeanine L. DeBor, J.D., A'89, Director of Law Alumni Relations and Development @Duquesne University, School of Law
Jeanine received her B.A. from Duquesne Univ. and her J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law. Prior to joining Duquesne, she was a child advocate at KidsVoice, representing abused and neglected children in Allegheny County. She previously practiced law in the areas of workers' compensation, social security disability, and commercial litigation. She is a past-chair of the Allegheny County Bar Association's Women in the Law Division and currently serves as chair of the Gender Bias Subcommittee. She is a past trustee and Sustaining Fellow of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Women's Bar Association of Western PA and CASE. Jeanine is also a member of the DU Anti-Discrimination Review Panel, the DU Sexual Violence Conduct Board, and is a volunteer consultant for the Bayer Center Executive Service Corps. She was a member of Soroptimist International of Pittsburgh for 15 years, serving as President for 4 years; she was also a board member of InVision Human Services.
