Biography

Dr. Johnson has served on five nursing faculties over her thirty year career in nursing. Most recently she served as Chair of Advanced Practice, Executive Director of the Community Based Health and Wellness Centers and the Director of the FNP Program at Duquesne. She previously served as Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson Arizona, Assistant Professor at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and Assistant Professor at Capital University and Ohio University in Ohio. She has taught in undergraduate and graduate program and has taught on-line courses since 1997.

Dr. Johnson has experience in hospital administration, nursing leadership and organizational quality improvement. She has served as Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Quality Officer, Chief Development Officer and Director of Ambulatory Services in several health care systems and is certified in health care quality (CPHQ). She has assisted organizations as they have transformed primary care practices and in developing Patient Centered Medical Home strategies and processes leading to NCQA certification. She teaches several courses in the DNP Program including Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Health Care Information Systems. She also serves as a Faculty Mentor, working with DNP students in developing and implementing their DNP Projects.

She maintains her practice as a family nurse practitioner and pediatric nurse practitioner working in a community practice serving underserved populations.

Dr. Johnson continues to work to describe DNP's role in quality improvement and practice transformation within community based health care systems. She is currently developing a book proposal focused upon Advanced Practice Nursing's Leadership in Improving the Quality of Community Based Care.

She has expanded her interest in transcultural nursing and health to include the impact of meditation, mindfulness and reflective practice. She has written several chapters describing the evolution of meditation and mindfulness and its impact on stress management and chronic care disease management.

Dr. Johnson received her BSN from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, MS in nursing administration from the Ohio State University, MSN family nurse practitioner from Wright State University, and her PhD in Nursing from Duquesne University. She also received a Post Master's Certificate in Transcultural Nursing from Duquesne and is certified as in Healthcare Quality through NAHQ and IHI.

Dr. Johnson has been involved in professional organizational leadership for many years holding leadership positions in several nursing specialty organizations including American Nurses Association, three state nursing organizations, Sigma Theta Tau, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
