Biography

Dr. Jeffrey Roberts is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Technology at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business. He brings a mix of industry and academic experience to Duquesne.

Dr. Roberts’ industry career includes service with several leading technology firms including Texas Instruments and IBM’s Advanced Workstation Division.

His research interests focus on questions related to the processes and organizational impacts of the development and deployment of information technology (IT) and systems.

One research area in this stream is open source software OSS projects (for example, the Linux operating system or the Firefox Web browser). These studies represent some of the earliest scholarly explorations of the open source software phenomenon and have garnered more than one thousand citations.

Another research area in this stream explores diminished IT system quality due to semantic and syntactic dependencies between product components and organizational factors such as project team location, size, and patterns of communication.

Lastly, in alignment with the strategic focus of the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, Dr. Roberts has published articles in the areas of business ethics and sustainability.
