Judith Bowman

Judith Bowman is Professor of Music Education and Music Technology at the Mary Pappert School of Music, where she teaches courses in music research, psychology of music, and digital music pedagogy. She also directs graduate research projects in music education and music technology. Dr. Bowman developed online courses for the master's degrees in music education and in music technology and co-developed the B.M. and M.M. degrees in Music Technology. Her research interests include online learning, online learning in music, music cognition, and teaching with technology.

Dr. Bowman is the author of Online Learning in Music: Foundations, Frameworks, and Practices, published by Oxford University Press (2014). She co-authored Applications of Research in Music Technology (MENC, 1994), and her work has been published in the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, PMEA News, and others. She has lectured on technology in music education internationally (Tokyo, Helsinki, Prague, London, Amsterdam, Limerick, Quebec) and throughout the United States for The College Music Society, Association for Technology in Music Instruction, International Society for Music Education, National Association for Music Education, Music Teachers National Association, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, East/West Invitational Seminar on New Technologies in Education, International Conference on Technology in Education, Syllabus/Campus Technology, and others. Dr. Bowman is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda and former Secretary of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (1991-2003). She is a recipient of a Duquesne University Creative Teaching Award and of the Duquesne University Presidential Scholarship Award.
