Karen Jakub, PhD, RN

Karen Jakub has a clinical background in adult health in the areas of medical/surgical ICU, coronary intensive care, IV therapy, homecare and cardiac electrophysiology. She has a PhD in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was the recipient of a pre-doctoral T-32 training grant for Interventions to Manage and Prevent Chronic Illness. The title of her dissertation was Long-term Adjustment and Reimplantation Surgery in Patients with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators.

Dr. Jakub started her nursing career as a diploma graduate from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing and completed her BSN at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She earned her MSN in Nursing from Franciscan University in Steubenville before pursuing her doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research interests include chronic heart disease and technology interventions for cardiac arrhythmias. She is the president of the Epsilon Phi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, and a member of the National League of Nursing, International Society of Nurses in Genetics, Eastern Nursing Research Society, Pennsylvania Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association.

She has taught undergraduate courses in the Undergraduate, RN to BSN, and Second-Degree BSN program at the School of Nursing. Courses include Nursing Research, Applied Pathophysiology, Adult Health and Illness, and Genetics in Nursing and Health. She has also served as chairperson for DNP students' capstone projects and is on several PhD dissertation committees.
