Biography
Dr. Klotzbaugh's research interests relate to the role of nursing in the equitable health care of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender populations. More specifically, his research focuses on the intersection of sexual and gender minorities within a rural context. His research has been featured in major scholarly nursing journals.
He is a nationally certified family nurse practitioner and a recent recipient of the Maureen Oh Eigartaigh Excellence in Nursing Practice Award for his work with transgender clients. He has been an invited lecturer on the care of sexual and gender minorities in primary practice. Dr. Klotzbaugh has been active in the establishment and development of the nursing section of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and a longstanding member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
He has recently completed work on his funded project entitled, "Utilizing gender minority perspectives to describe and operationalize affirming behavioral health outcomes of peer-led support groups" for gender minorities in New Mexico through the Translational Research Equity and Engagement Center at the University of New Mexico's Health Sciences Center. This research will guide innovative health services in order to increase access of rural/frontier gender minority populations to peer-led support groups and provide for the development of an outcomes measurement tool specific to gender minorities.
