Duquesne University’s Board of Directors has approved the complete Master Plan
The publication has two large sections. The first, People, describes our health and safety measures and policies. It also discusses academic instruction and student success, campus activities, and plans for wellbeing, a section distinct to Duquesne that we have not seen in many other university plans. The second section, Places, outlines how the University will manage its facilities. It includes facts about cleaning practices, access to buildings and campus, classroom and residence hall configurations, dining, parking, and related details.
As we all have seen, the pandemic conditions have been quite variable. Guidance from government and health officials can change rapidly. Therefore, our plan is flexible, designed to allow us to move quickly and seamlessly into different modes of educational delivery if circumstances change.
As the University implements the plan, we will update our webpages and communicate with constituents regularly. The plan’s guiding principles—safety, academic continuity, flexibility, and our mission—are evident in each of the many steps the Task Forces compiled to guide us throughout the fall 2020 semester.
This plan and its elaborate provisions designed to ensure the success and safety of the entire Duquesne community reflect a historic moment for the University. How this moment looks in retrospect will depend on how each of us does our part at this crucial time. Changes as simple as wearing a mask or reconceiving a class for a hybrid mode will color this moment and will show how we, as members of the Duquesne community, can work together and accomplish anything we set our sights on.
Founded in 1878, Duquesne is consistently ranked among the nation's top Catholic universities for its award-winning faculty and horizon-expanding education. A campus of nearly 8,500 graduate and undergraduate students, Duquesne prepares students by having them work alongside faculty to discover and reach their goals. The University’s academic programs, community service, and commitment to equity and opportunity in the Pittsburgh region have earned national acclaim.
