Important Update Regarding COVID-19 Vaccines

As part of our continued commitment to providing a safe and healthy campus community, COVID-19 vaccines have become available to Duquesne, and we will begin a multi-phased approach to vaccinating faculty, staff and students who meet certain Pennsylvania Department of Health Phase 1A criteria.

We will begin with Phase 1A, prioritizing health care personnelincluding students learners—and individuals over 65 years of age. Individuals between the ages of 16-64 with underlying conditions will be prioritized next. To determine if you are eligible in Phase 1A, please visit the following link provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health: Your-Turn

Vaccination appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. New appointments for vaccinations will be added as supplies are received. Individuals will be alerted via email through SONA when vaccine timeslots are available. Only those individuals that meet the criteria for Phase 1A should sign-up for an appointment at this time. Additional communication will be forthcoming once additional phases begin.

We ask that you be patient as enough quantity of the vaccine is received. Challenges related to vaccine distribution have been well covered by the media, and Duquesne is subject to the same uncertainty. Vaccine quantities and availability are unpredictable and subject to change at any time, however, the University is doing everything possible to make vaccinations available. The supply allocated to Duquesne will likely occur in waves over the course of several weeks.

Duquesne is using a platform called SONA to facilitate vaccination scheduling and other vaccine-related communications. All students and employees should access the SONA platform at the following link and use their DORI multipass credentials to log in: SONA COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Registration.

Once receipt of the vaccination and supplies are confirmed at Duquesne University, eligible individuals will receive an invitation to schedule a vaccination via an email notification from SONA. Individuals will be able to view available vaccination timeslots and schedule an appointment. Due to capacity limitations and the need to maintain social distancing, appointments are required and walk-ins will not be permitted. The vaccination will take approximately 30 minutes.

For assistance in registering, call the Duquesne University Center for Pharmacy Care at 412.396.2155 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please use the online registration process if you are able.

While waiting prior to and after receiving the vaccine, individuals must continue to wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose, practice physical distancing and wash hands frequently to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Once you access the SONA system, it will become apparent that the system platform is designed from a research perspective. Because of that, some of the terms utilized within the platform have been redefined for the purposes of our vaccination needs. A few key terms below define how these terms will be used for Duquesne’s campus vaccination clinics.

“Study” Vaccination Clinic.
“Credit” You will receive credit assigned to your account if you receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Excused No-Show” No-Show to Vaccine Clinic. If you neglect to appear to your pre-scheduled appointment, you will be notified via email that you received a no-show with a reminder to reschedule.
