University Approved to Begin Administering COVID-19 Vaccines

We are pleased to announce that the University has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to begin administering COVID-19 vaccines upon receipt of vaccine supply.

The Center for Pharmacy Care, under the direction of Health Services physician Dr. Paul Larson, will manage vaccine distribution in the Power Center ballrooms. Vaccine registration will be managed using the SONA platform in a similar manner that it has been used for COVID-19 testing on campus.

The first group to receive vaccines, based on the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s guidelines, will be employees who are 65 and older and students in clinical rotations. Registration of this group will begin immediately, but distribution will depend on the amount of vaccine received.

This first group will be processed each week until they are all vaccinated and as supplies are received. As a result, individuals should note that although they may be “registered” for a particular date, appointments will be dependent on the University vaccine supply and appointments may be postponed to a subsequent week.

If the University receives sufficient supplies to pursue 1B vaccination, students and employees will be sent a survey to determine whether they meet 1B criteria.

Duquesne officials remain in constant contact with state and local officials and are prepared to meet any changing plans and conditions.

Additional details, including dates for vaccine distribution, will be shared with students and employees as soon as they have been determined.
