Students with Covid-19 Symptoms

Resident Students diagnosed with COVID-19 will have the following options for isolation:

  • If the resident student lives within 200 miles of campus, they are to return to their permanent residence.
  • If the resident student has an Isolation-In-Place agreement with roommate(s), suitemate(s) then Residence Life will make accomodations.
  • If the resident student does not have an Isolation-In-Place agreement with roommate(s), suitemate(s) and lives beyond the 200 mile radius then Residence Life will arrange for alternate accomodations.

Health Services staff will collaborate with Residence Life for isolation housing placement and all related needs (personal items, meal delivery, supplies, etc.) for resident students who live beyond the 200 mile radius.

Health Services will apply a designated flag to the student's account in Starfish which will communicate to professors, instructors, and academic advisor that the student is in need of academic continuation through online courses for up to 10 days.

Clearance/Ending Isolation Instructions

Please be advised it is no longer necessary to contact Health Services once your 5 day isolation period is complete, as long as your symptoms have improved or resolved.

If symptoms have not improved or worsened after the 5 day isolation period, please remain isolated and contact Health Services at (412) 396-1650 for further instruction.

Release back to clinical rotation sites are dependent upon the facilitie's rules pertaining to isolation.

Please check with your clinical instructor to see if further isolation is recommended at the clinical site.

Health Services will no longer conduct contract tracing. However, we stress that any person with a positive status notify any close contacts, particularly those who are immunocompromised or elderly.

If you have been exposed to COVID-19 or believe that you may have been in contact with a positive person but you are currently asymptomatic, testing is available on campus in the Duquesne Union in room 109.  Please schedule an appointment or walk-in during testing hours. The link for testing sign up will be sent out weekly via email.

Students may continue to call Health Services for symptomatic testing or can seek testing off campus. Please notify Health Services of any positive result from off campus testing.

Commuter Students diagnosed with COVID-19 will receive detailed and specific guidance for isolation. Health Services will work with the commuter student to formulate an isolation plan based on their individual commuter living arrangements.

Health Services will apply a designated flag to the student's account in Starfish which will communicate to professors, instructors, and academic advisor that the student is in need of academic continuation through online courses for up to 10 days.
