James Matson & Daniel Smolsky
Director and Assistant Director
Hey everyone! My name is James Matson and I'll be your Director for this year's Orientation! I'm currently a senior Biochemistry major here at Duquesne, planning on going to grad school to become a Physician Assistant. I'm from a small town of only 2,000 people in central PA called Brockway, where we are well known for our one stop light in town! I like to travel whenever I can, slowly working across the globe as my college based budget allows. I never took an official campus tour at Duquesne, but as soon as I stepped foot on campus I knew I would love it. Over the last three years that feeling has only strengthened, realizing that the network of friends and more importantly family I've built is invaluable. My hopes are to help start you all off on the right foot and have as positive an experience as I've had during your first week here. I can't wait to welcome you all to Duquesne!
Hey everybody! My name is Dan Smolsky and I am the Assistant Director for this year's orientation program! I will starting my third year in Duquesne's business school this fall pursuing a double major in economics and marketing. I grew up a mere 2,424 miles away in Santa Clarita, California (maybe you've heard of our Netflix show!) with three sisters and a brother. I decided I wanted a change of pace from the chaos that had consumed my childhood and committed to Duquesne without ever having toured campus or visiting the city of Pittsburgh. I have since fallen in love with Duquesne and the city of Pittsburgh and attribute a lot of my happiness to my own orientation program and the relationships that it created two years ago. I am excited to welcome you all to the Duquesne family and hope your transition to college is as impactful and memorable as mine was. Enjoy the rest of your summers and start getting excited for everything we've got planned!
