Mallory was selected as a 2019 Men of Excellence awardee by the New Pittsburgh Courier, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious black newspapers in the country.
Men of Excellence awardees may be business leaders, husbands, fathers, mentors and community members. They are lauded as role models for the next generation of excellence and are recognized for encouraging others through their leadership, making professional achievements and positively impacting their communities.
"It's an honor to be nominated and worthy of receiving a 2019 Men of Excellence Award," Mallory said. "When I think of this award, I think of my family in particular and the great work we do here at Duquesne University. It is truly humbling to be recognized along with many peers and colleagues in our region that I respect on many levels."
The New Pittsburgh Courier will honor Mallory and his fellow Men of Excellence awardees at a reception on Friday, Feb. 22, at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel.
In addition, Mallory was recently named to serve on the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania Board of Directors. A distinguished group of leaders in the greater Pittsburgh area and across Pennsylvania, the board's strategic decision-making and guidance steer the organization. Board members are recruited based on their passion, expertise and ability to acquire resources.
Mallory said he especially appreciates being nominated for the award by two of his mentors, including Kim Tillotson Fleming, chairman and chief executive officer of Hefren-Tillotson, Inc., and David Malone, president and chief executive officer of Gateway Financial Group, Inc. "I look forward to assisting the work of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, which has supported the needs of individuals in our region for over 100 years," Mallory said.
