At Duquesne, genuine faculty-scholars help students discover how to become difference-makers who think bigger, solve problems and change the world for the better. Graduate students in the MBA Sustainable Business Practices program (SMBA) do that through the strategies they develop to benefit organizations' financial, social and sustainable impact.

The SMBA has long been an innovative leader among programs of its kind and was recently ranked for the seventh consecutive year among the top 10 schools in the prestigious Corporate Knights Better World MBA rankings. Duquesne was the highest-ranked U.S. program and came in at No. 7 globally in the newly released 2021 Better World MBA: Top 40 rankings.

"The integrated project-based curriculum in the MBA Sustainable Business Practices program is a huge differentiator," Business Dean Dr. Dean McFarlin said. "It gives our students distinctive experiences tackling real sustainability-related challenges facing client firms. These are invaluable for developing students' skills and ability to make a difference in their careers and for the organizations they serve."

Dr. Karen Donovan, associate dean for graduate programs and executive education in the business school, echoes McFarlin's sentiments.

"Consistently achieving a top 10 ranking in Corporate Knights Better World MBA is significant because it measures the impact of what we do in the classroom as well as the cutting-edge scholarship produced by our faculty," Donovan said. "We routinely hear from current students, alumni and corporate partners that the qualities Corporate Knights evaluates are also difference makers in the workplace."

Through its methodology, Corporate Knights evaluated 147 MBAs, including the 2021 Financial Times 100 Global MBA programs; every program that made the 2020 Top 40 in the Corporate Knights Better World MBA Ranking; and select MBA programs accredited by the Associate of MBAs, the Associate to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business or EFMD Quality Improvement System and/or signatories of the Principles for Responsible Management Education that opted in for evaluation.

Founded in 2002, Corporate Knights Inc. includes the sustainable business magazine Corporate Knights and a research division that produces proprietary rankings and financial product ratings based on corporate sustainability performance, including the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. Corporate Knights was named Magazine of the Year in 2013 and won the SABEW Canada Silver Award for Investigative Reporting in 2019.
