The school will offer a Bachelor in Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health, making it the first undergraduate public health major in the region. It will also offer a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences.
"As the population ages, the need for health care professionals will continue to grow," said Dr. Fevzi Akinci, dean of the Rangos School. "These new programs will provide students with the expertise they need to work in a range of settings, while also providing a gateway to graduate degree programs in various disciplines."
The Public Health Bachelor in Science degree focuses on the scientific dimensions of health, and would appeal to students wanting to study infectious and chronic diseases, environmental health and general epidemiology.
The Public Health Bachelor of Arts degree is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on social, behavioral and community health aspects of public health, global health, program planning, development and assessment.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences provides students with the skills needed to conduct comprehensive health and fitness assessments and develop programs to address the needs of their patients. The program equips students to assess patient outcomes and implement program changes accordingly.
Students may also use this major as a pathway to pursue graduate programs in the healthcare field, such as medical/veterinary/dental medicine, athletic training, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy and many others.
