Duquesne University will celebrate its third annual Africa Week, featuring events
and outreach activities that highlight African traditions and perspectives, from Tuesday,
Oct. 24, through Thursday, Oct. 26.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Tuesday, Oct. 24
Talk on Africa Lecture: U.S. Policy Vis-À-Vis the Continent of Africa: Progress and Pitfalls
Power Center Ballroom, 4 to 6 p.m.
The lecture will feature Bernadette B. Paolo, former president and chief executive
officer of the Africa Society of the National Summit on Africa. Dr. Faida Mitifu,
founder of FMM Consulting Services LLC, will serve as the guest responder. Mitifu
has 18 years of experience as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the
Democratic Republic of the Congo in the United States.
Wednesday, Oct. 25
Taste of Africa Marketplace
Gumberg Library Patio and Union Atrium, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The marketplace will feature a variety of African-themed goods from non-profit groups,
student vendors, Etsy and local collectives, along with African drumming performances and African-themed
food.
Thursday, Oct. 26
Motherland
Africa Room, Union, 7 to 10 p.m.
A collection of African cultural performances, food and fashion, hosted by the Duquesne
Union of African Students.
