Orientation 2026: New Students, New Beginnings

Slated for Tuesday, Aug. 18, through Sunday, Aug. 23, this year’s Orientation is guided by the theme, New Beginnings: Create Endless Possibilities. 

The nearly week-long program launches the Duquesne journey for incoming students, creating opportunities to connect, grow and discover new paths and a greater sense of purpose as members of the University community.

Designed by students for students, Orientation is driven by a team of 24 chairpersons and 180 team leaders who have been preparing for months to create a welcoming and engaging experience for first-year and transfer students. Through more than 70 events and activities, first-year and transfer students will have the chance to build relationships, explore campus and resources, and gain the knowledge and confidence needed to successfully transition to life at Duquesne. 

Some key events include:

• New Student Move-In: Tuesday, Aug. 18, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Matriculation: Wednesday, Aug. 19, UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, 2:30 p.m.
• Mass of the Holy Spirit: Sunday, Aug. 23, UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, 11 a.m.

Parent and Family Orientation helps families begin their Duquesne journey alongside their student. Through sessions focused on academics, student wellbeing, safety and first-year success, families will have opportunities to connect with University leaders, faculty, staff and fellow Duquesne families. The day also includes Matriculation, dean-hosted receptions and an optional Parent & Family Dinner.

The support and hospitality of the entire Duquesne community play an important role in helping our newest students feel welcomed and prepared as they embrace new beginnings and the opportunities that lie ahead.
