Application Deadline Approaching for Pennsylvania Sustainable Small Business Award

Businesses with under 500 employees are invited to submit applications for the third annual Pennsylvania Sustainable Small Business award, presented by Duquesne University's Center for Green Industries and Sustainable Business Growth.

The application, available online at www.duq.edu/pa-sustainable, is due on Monday, Feb. 23, at duqgreen@duq.edu.

The award celebrates small businesses that implement green practices while remaining profitable. The winner will be recognized at the Beard Sustainability Symposium at Duquesne on Tuesday, March 24.

"Many smaller companies show that sustainable practices aren't just the right thing to do for our environment and people; sustainable practices also can be profitable," said Dr. Jim Philips, director of the center. "This award gives us the chance to applaud the companies that keep sustainability initiatives top of mind and built into their operations."

The award dovetails with the work of the center, which supports green efforts, regional commercialization and job growth.

Previous winners of the award are Burns and Scalo Roofing Co. of Thornburg and ReAxis Inc. of Washington County.
