Duquesne Students Take Team Award in National Marketing Competition
Two business students from Duquesne University received the team award and honors in the recent State Farm Marketing and Sales Competition.
The Nov. 12 competition was a first-time, day-long event in which students from each school sold a mock auto insurance policy to young adult customers. The project included development of a marketing plan and three rounds of individual sales presentations. Students were judged on video-taped sales presentations and their portfolios.
Duquesne was the only school among the eight national competitors that had both student representatives finish in the top five.
Senior marketing major Maria Nist of Zelienople placed second overall and senior marketing/informational technology major Kathryn Wynn of Clarks Summit placed fourth overall. The team was mentored by Dr. Dorene Ciletti, assistant professor of marketing.
State Farm selected educational partners in each of its eight zones, and Duquesne was chosen as the partner in the Northeast Zone. Other colleges competing were the hosting University of Central Missouri, the University of Southern California, the University of Illinois, Ohio University, Wake Forest University, the University of Texas and Louisiana State University. Each school selected two students for the competition.
