Duquesne University, Employee Receive Patriot Awards
Duquesne University and one of its program directors have been honored for providing outstanding support to employees who are members of the military.
Duquesne received a Patriot Award from the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and the Reserve (ESGR).
Jennifer Milcarek, director of the Investment Center at Duquesne’s Palumbo•Donahue School of Business, also was recognized with a Patriot Award. She was nominated for the honor by service member Sarah Gault, a senior finance major and employee of the Investment Center.
“We, along with our friends at ESGR, are proud to be recognizing these outstanding area employers who went above and beyond in supporting their employees who were called to serve our country,” said Gary Hunt, president of the bar association, which helped in recognizing 17 organizations. “They truly understood the sacrifice being made by their employees and families, and they treated them with the respect, dignity, love and admiration that our veterans and their families so richly deserve.”
The mission of the ESGR, an agency of the Department of Defense, is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, raising awareness of the law and resolving conflicts through informal mediation. The ESGR regularly partners with the bar association’s Military & Veterans Affairs Committee to educate employers about laws protecting military employees.
