Mylan School of Pharmacy Hosts Annual Commencement
More than 150 graduates will receive their degrees at the 81st annual Mylan School of Pharmacy Commencement Ceremony at Duquesne University.
Duquesne alumnus Thomas J. Strauss, president and chief executive officer of Summa Health System, will deliver the keynote address. Summa Health System, the largest health care delivery system in Summit County, Ohio. The 1,800-bed health system includes six hospitals, four community health centers and the Summa Foundation.
Before joining Summa in 1999, Strauss was the president of Meridia Health Services in Cleveland, which later merged with the Cleveland Clinic Health System. He also has experience in private industry and held several executive positions with the Baxter Health Corp., formerly American Hospital Supply Corp., before his tenure at Meridia. A pharmacist by trade, Strauss was the assistant director of patient care modules at Allegheny General Hospital prior to joining Baxter in 1983. In addition, he is a member of the Akron Regional Hospital Association, the Greater Akron Chamber, the Cleveland Health Network, Akron Tomorrow, Ohio Hospital Association’s CEO Committee on Advocacy and Policy, and United Way of Summit County.
