New Publication Shares the Charism of Duquesne’s Spiritan Founders

The Duquesne community is celebrating the recent publication of Spiritan Horizons, A Journal of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, a nearly 100-page, annual journal published by the Center for Spiritan Studies at Duquesne University.

Designed to share the charism of Duquesne’s Spiritan founders with a wider audience, the inaugural issue contains 13 articles written by Spiritans from Duquesne University and around the world, several members of Duquesne’s faculty and Spiritan lay associates.

“Horizons combines articles of a research nature with others, no less serious, related to the lived experience of the Spiritan charism around the world today,” said the Rev. John Fogarty, C.S.Sp., director of the center and editor of the publication.  “The name Spiritan Horizons captures well both the goal and scope of the new journal. It looks back to the horizon of the past and forward to the horizon of the future, all within the context of the many different cultural horizons in which Spiritans and their collaborators work today. And, of course, these two horizons—the past and the future—are very closely linked.”

Spiritan Horizons covers topics ranging from scholarly accounts of the order’s history, to religious and lay-person accounts of how the Spiritan charism has touched lives.  Its four primary sections include: Wellsprings, which focuses on the legacy of Spiritan founders; Soundings, which offers articles on present and future reflections on Spiritan charism; Lived Experience, which shares accounts of how the charism has shaped the lives of individuals; and Education, which includes articles reflecting the Spiritan commitment to education.

Spiritan Horizons is available online on the Center’s Web site.
