Duquesne Dining Enhancements Coming This Fall

Duquesne is pleased to announce several campus dining enhancements and renovations aimed at providing students, employees and visitors with a variety of high quality food and beverage options.

"Student surveys, feedback and purchasing patterns in recent years continue to indicate that students prefer a combination of food choices, with the most popular and consistent requests being chicken, Mexican and fresh selections, as well as food that can be eaten on-the-go," said Scott Richards, executive director of Auxiliary Services. "And of course, Starbucks continues to be strongly in demand."

In order to better meet that demand, the Starbucks in the Union will be renovated beginning shortly after May commencement ceremonies are held. Efficiency will be improved with a new, expanded hand-off area for beverages; and the number of blenders and ovens will be doubled to handle the high volume of customers. Technology will also be upgraded so that customers can use the Starbucks App and gift cards; and more charging outlets will be available to enhance guests' experience. In addition, the overall aesthetics will be updated with soft seating and community tables.

"This is an opportunity to take the busiest Starbucks in Pittsburgh and make it more efficient and better equipped to serve the needs of the campus community," said Jeff Sinciline, General Manager, Parkhurst Retail Dining.

The Options Food Court on the fifth floor of the Union will also undergo some exciting updates.

Chick-fil-A, the highest-ranking fast food restaurant in the country for customer satisfaction, will now be available to campus diners when Chick-fil-A Express opens at Options beginning in the fall semester. Nearly everything from the Chick-fil-A menu is made daily from scratch and chicken is made of 100% whole breast meat, without fillers, hormones or additives. In addition to its signature chicken sandwich, Chick-fil-A's diverse menu includes grilled chicken, waffle fries, a kale and broccolini salad, new sauces, a barbecue-bacon sandwich and salads which are made with fresh vegetables and fruits that are hand-chopped throughout the day. Hand-spun milkshakes will also be available in addition to homemade lemonade.

"More than 245 college campuses around the country including Catholic University, Penn State University, Drexel University and the University of Pittsburgh have successfully brought Chick-fil-A onto their campuses, and more are doing the same in the next several years," said Richards. "Now, our students will have the opportunity to enjoy the brand on our campus instead of having to travel to Oakland or the suburbs."

Based on its ongoing popularity at Options, a new Mexican made-to-order experience crafted by Parkhurst Dining's Marketing and Culinary team will also launch this fall. The updated menu will include made-to-order burritos, bowls, tacos, salads and made-from-scratch salsas and queso.

The salad, deli and Chobani bar in Options will be replaced to allow diners to enjoy the newly revised on-the-go program, which features fresh, culinary-driven recipes for artisan deli sandwiches, bistro boxes, salads, sushi, yogurt parfaits and much more. These items will also be available at The Incline, Campus Market and Campus Market Express. The Chobani yogurt bar and crafted parfaits will be available at Rockwell Market. Made-to-order salads are also available at The Incline in the Union and at Freshens on Forbes.

In addition, the Hogan Dining Center will continue to offer a full made-to-order deli and salad bar with a different chef-inspired salad entrée every day, as well as 9 different food stations and vegan and vegetarian entrees every day.
