Duquesne University to Install New Pedestrian Walkway Over Forbes Avenue
A pedestrian walkway over Forbes Avenue will be installed as part of construction on the Duquesne University recreational and retail complex site. The walkway, which will be placed on freestanding supports, will connect the new building to the heart of campus.
Traffic will be diverted from Forbes Avenue for this part of the project.
The University broke ground on March 14 for the 125,000-square-foot multi-purpose recreation center, the first phase of development that will serve both the campus community and the Uptown neighborhood. The facility, which is expected to be completed at the end of 2007, will house Barnes and Noble Booksellers, a restaurant and other retail space on its ground floor. Other amenities include basketball and racquetball courts, deck hockey, cardio-fitness facilities, locker rooms, exercise and dance studios, a ballroom, a kitchen and roof-top deck.
When: Saturday, Aug. 5, and Sunday, Aug. 6.
The bridge is expected to be put into place between noon and 5 p.m. Saturday. Additional work will be conducted Sunday, if necessary.
Backup dates are the following weekend, Aug. 12 and 13.
Where: Near the Duquesne archway off Forbes Avenue, Uptown.
