Duquesne Veterans’ Oral History Exhibit is Open Through November
In honor of the Duquesne University alumni who bravely served the United States, Gumberg Library is hosting the Duquesne Veterans' Oral History Exhibit for the month of November.
The free exhibit, which highlights the stories of veteran alumni who participated in the Duquesne Veterans' Oral History Project, runs through Friday, Nov. 30, in the fourth-floor Popular Reading Room in Gumberg Library.
An opening reception and story gathering will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the exhibit.
"The Veterans' Oral History Exhibit is a way for us to showcase the stories of the veterans who've participated in the ongoing Veterans Oral History Project to date," said Megan DeFries, oral historian at Gumberg Library. "We wanted the opportunity for the veterans to share their story in their own words and we're incorporating their photographs, text and audio clips in the exhibit."
Veterans who attend the reception will have the opportunity to share their memories at the event's story-gathering segment or sign up to participate in the ongoing oral history project.
"These stories are important for people to hear, and they're important to tell," said DeFries. "I think it's important for people to hear veterans, in their own words, talk about what it means to serve in the military and what that sacrifice is all about."
Funding for the exhibit was made possible through the sponsorship of Bethel Fife and Drum Chapter 2-106 PA and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
