Sustainability—the Bridge to the Future
Executives, entrepreneurs, business professionals and community leaders are invited to attend Sustainability: The Bridge to the Future, where they can learn why environmental, financial and social responsibility—the triple bottom line—are essential for economic recovery, innovation and growth.
The third annual Beard Symposium will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the downtown Westin Hotel. The event will feature regional and international experts and will cover topics including:
- successful companies align sustainable values with business priorities
- lasting economic recovery demands all organizations be smart and sustainable
- sustainability’s triple bottom line empowers managers and increases innovation and growth
- organizations can prosper in a rapidly changing regulatory environment.
Keynote speakers include Andrew Winston, co-author of Green to Gold and author of Green Recovery, and Andrew Savitz, author of The Triple Bottom Line and former lead partner at PricewaterhouseCooper. A CEO forum will include leaders from Alcoa, Duquesne Light Holdings Inc., Lennox International Inc. and Tri-State Coalition for Responsible Investment. A panel discussion with executives from Citigroup, Direct Energy, Dow Jones & Company Inc. and Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America Inc. will address A 20/20 View of the Year 2020.
In addition, the Duquesne University Green to Gold award, a new honor for companies nationwide that use sustainable practices to turn a profit, will be unveiled at the symposium.
“These days, many organizations are working hard to develop practices that can insure long-term growth and also long-term sustainability,” said Dr. Alan Miciak, dean of Duquesne’s Palumbo•Donahue School of Business. “The best companies are not only interested in making money, they are concerned with what is being referred to as the ‘triple bottom line,’ which includes financial, social and environmental responsibility, all essential performance indicators in today’s business and regulatory environment.”
