Wal-Mart VP/General Counsel Keynotes Law Commencement Ceremony
The Duquesne University School of Law will welcome Alberto J. Mora, vice president and general counsel for the international department of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., as the keynote speaker at its 94th annual commencement.
Mora is responsible for Wal-Mart’s legal affairs in its overseas retail markets, including China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, the United Kingdom, five Central American countries and Puerto Rico. He also was a presidential appointee as general counsel to the U.S. Navy and he served as a foreign service officer. In May 2006, Mora received the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s Profile of Courage Award in recognition of his efforts to improve the treatment of detainees in U.S. custody at Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere.
Mora launched his legal career as a trial attorney concentrating on civil and commercial litigation in 1982, after graduating from the University of Miami School of Law.
