Emergency Response


American Red Cross Southwest PA Chapter (Downtown)

American Red Cross serves 1.6 million people in Allegheny, Washington, Fayette and Green counties. Our mission is to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Volunteers will provide assistance with projects of various nature. Responding to disasters, emergency communication for military families and community disaster education. Pre-requisite: Must be 18 years of age, orientation, training period 6-30 hours and a back ground check required.


Central Blood Bank (Greentree)

CBB provides blood, blood products and serves to more than 40 hospitals in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Crawford, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington & Westmoreland counties.

Volunteers would provide office duties, serving refreshments to donors at Community Donor Centers or Mobile Blood Drives. Must be 15 yrs old or older, 10 minute training.


Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (various locations)

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank collects and distributes food to eleven counties in South Western Pennsylvania. By helping to assist soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, after school programs, senior high rises, drop-in centers, neighborhood food assistance and emergency agencies, meals on wheels, regional food banks and community centers over eighteen million pounds of food are distributed per year.

Volunteers are needed for projects including repackaging food and grocery products, and assisting with Special Events. The Food Bank works in conjunction with the Food Farm, which raises fresh produce to serve the hungry. There are opportunities to plant, weed, and harvest produce.

Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 8:30 am - 11:00 am, at the Food Bank in Duquesne, greet and escort volunteers to the Volunteer Activities Center as well as doing some light clerical tasks.

Every 2nd Thursday of each month from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Carrick Regency Senior High Rise, volunteers are needed to help distribute food boxes.


Salvation Army (Brushton/Downtown/Homewood/Pgh/West PA)

Salvation Army provides a host of vital, social, spiritual and support services to families in need throughout 28 counties.

Volunteers are needed to assist in activities such as bell ringing, collecting food for our drive, collecting toys for our Treasures for Children, and separating toys for distribution. Pre-requisite: Age 18 years old, Background Check and Child Abuse Clearances are required.
