Women's Guild Freshman Family Luncheon

 Freshman Family Luncheon - Sunday, September 23, 2012


Nearly 350 mothers, fathers, friends, students, and Guild Members gathered on Sunday, September 23, 2012 to welcome freshmen and their families.

The event began with opportunities to "win" raffle baskets or purchase mystery bags.  The mystery bags were a hit!  The also 60 bags were purchased within 15 minutes!  Fr. Ray French offered the opening prayer before the lunch. Guild Member Eileen Gavin  baked lady locks and made truffles for the lunch consisting of a croissant sandwich and fruit salad.  At l p.m., President Mary McIntyre introduced Robin Connors who coordinated a preview of the DU apparel available from Barnes & Noble.  Models included John Kachur wearing a great DU tie!   Attendees were given a 25% discount on purchases!  Next, Public Safety Officer Frank Cortazzo, Resident Director Dan Cangilla, Commuter Affairs Director Tim Lewis, President of the Alumni Board MaryAdele Krolikowski, Career Services Director Nicole Feldues, Freshman Development Director Sean Weaver, SGA Academic Vice President Shannon Smith, Health Services Director Dessa Mrvos, and from the Spiritan Campus Mnistry Kate Lecci provided a short perspective on the freshman experience.     

Everyone agreed that the highliglht of the day was the reflections from Dr. Jay Keenan, retired professor from the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.   Dr. Keenan's keynote address was motivational, poignant, and hilarious!   We appreciate his ability to dazzle a diverse group and thank you him for his participation.
