APRIL 17 - Bus Trip to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland

December 6, 2017

What an exciting event.   So much happened!  The Association's new President, Terry Tatrai, was installed.

A heartfelt  "Thank You" along with an award presentation was given to Charles Winek, Ph.D. for his many fun filled years of service.   His humor and good will definitely will be missed!  Thanks again Charlie!!!

Father Hogan gave a beautiful blessing to all and President Gromely gave words of recognition and appreciation to the retirees for all they have done and continue to do to make the University such a wonderful place!

50/50 Raffle, presents, and gifts of poinettas!! All that along with good friends and food!  What a lovely afternoon.

July Pirate Day

TUESDAY, MAY 16, 2017,

Guests enjoyed an hour of renewing old friendships, and making some new ones.  Members and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner and more time to socialize!  Lunch was followed by a 50/50 raffle and then the lovely centerpieces from each table were raffled off.
Guests were then taken on a journey back in time.  The University Archivist and Curator of Special Collections, Thomas White, managed to take all of us back to the beginning of the University and he almost made it to today but ran out of time!   Tom had so many historic facts and tidbits of fun information.   Not to mention all the amazing photos of historical moments and people.   We hated the journey to end!

Fall 2015 - Bus trip to New Wilmington, Grove City Shops, Wendell August Forge, and Volant

What a beautiful fall day we were blessed with on this lovely October day!

Members started the day visiting an Amish farm where we saw the most amazing mums, gourds, pumpkins and other home grown products.  We were treated to homemade donuts! YUM!    The bus then proceeded to a quilt shop and then a specialty grocery.  We then continued on to Volant enjoying a relaxing walk through this small town, followed by lunch in New Wilmington.  Guests were treated to delicious homemade sticky buns, and a home cooked dinner that was as good as Grandma use to make!  On the bus again and onto the Wendell August forge for a tour of the facility and time to shop!   For those who still had money...time on our own to shop at the Grove City Outlet.   What a fun filled and action packed day!

Dinner and a Show!

What a wonderful afternoon DURA members shared.

First Dinner at Braddocks' Brasserie, then a wonderful stage show "IN THE MOOD" at the Byham Theater.  A thirteen piece band providing music from the "big band era" had us all reminiscing.  Bringing this period of time back to life were six amazing singers/dancers who were full of fun and life.   We left the theater feeling young again and in happy spirit.  It was a great show...declared by some to be our best outing yet!!!

Annual Spring Luncheon, Duquesne University Campus

What fun!!! Kennywood food to help us get in the "mood"!

After our fun luncheon the guest speaker, DAVE HAHNER, (yes Kathy Hahner's son!!!) a Roller Coaster historian, presented a slide show on the history of Kennywood Park.   Dave is author of the book "Kennywood" so he had some really great old photos, lots of interestings history facts, and just a wonderful presentation on the park and the many "historic" rides therein.   It was a great afternoon for remembering Kennywood days of our youth, meeting with our former co-workers, and just having a nice relaxing time!

Bus trip to Canton, Ohio

Such a fun filled day for all!  The bus departed from Duquesne campus early in the morning.  We arrived at MULLIGAN'S a beautiful Irish Pub/Restaurant.   The restaurant was amazing.   Many resotration items added to the decor,  old chuch pews that created booths, an incredible mantle in one of the banquet rooms rescued from demolition was breathtaking with it's carved wood and marble hearth, one felt the need to just wander around and take in some of the old world beauty.

Lunch was delicious and desert mmmm the best!

After lunch guests were entertained by Mary Faktor who presented her one lady show "The Six Stages of Woman".   She was hilarious and actually had some of the "women" in the crowd in tears with laughter!
