The Leading Teacher Program Excellence Award is given to an undergraduate student whose performance demonstrates excellence in one of the three Themes of the Leading Teacher Program: Leadership, Diversity and Technology and is framed in the Spiritan Tradition of Caring.

• Leadership: A leading teacher is a life-long learner inspiring a community of learners to pursue continuous improvement and growth, who will serve as a practitioner guided by an ethical and moral framework.
• Diversity: A leading teacher is an advocate, creating learning experiences that demonstrate sensitivity, acknowledging students of all abilities and valuing human differences.
• Technology: A leading teacher is an architect building learning environments that acknowledge and incorporate the power of technology.

Criteria for Eligibility: Senior Bachelor's Level Award

1. Full-time undergraduate student in the LTP
2. Successfully completed student teaching within the current academic year
3. Minimum 3.5 quality point average.

Criteria for Eligibility: Graduate Level Award

1. Masters or doctoral student in the School of Education who has successfully completed program within the current academic year
2. Minimum 3.5 quality point average.

1. An alumnus/alumna of a Duquesne University School of Education undergraduate program or a graduate program in any of the following: the Leading Teacher Program (Bachelor's and Master's), Counseling (Master's and Doctoral), School Psychology (Psy.D. & Ph.D.), Educational Studies (Master's), Program Evaluation (Master's), Administration & Supervision (Master's), ProDEL (Doctoral), IDPEL (Doctoral), Reading Specialist, Instructional Technology (Master's & Doctoral), ESL programs, Child Psychology program, and Special Education programs
2. A minimum of five full years of continuous experience after degree was conferred.

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization committed to improving the educational success of children with exceptionalities. This organization is open to all education majors.

The Duquesne University Student Education Association (DUSEA) offers members an opportunity to connect with the education community of Pittsburgh through service projects.

The Duquesne University Student PSEA is the student chapter of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). Their purpose is to provide a unified student voice in matters pertaining to teacher preparation and the education field.

Kappa Delta Epsilon is a professional fraternity engaged in the preparation of educators through the commitment to the Spiritan Mission and high academic standards.

Pi Lambda Theta is a national honor society of educators. The organization is a forum for exchanging and developing ideas, fostering individual leadership, and promoting professionalism. Invitations for membership can be given to undergraduate and graduate students who meet the requirement of a cumulative GPA of 3.5.

The Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children (PAEYC) is a branch of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This organization encourages all majors in the School of Education to come together to help various programs in the Pittsburgh area.

Student Affiliates in School Psychology (SASP) is a student-led organization geared towards keeping graduate students informed of the issues in the school psychology field and encouraging participation in professional development opportunities. In addition, SASP creates opportunities for collaboration and communication between students and faculty in an effort to create meaningful and lasting professional relationships within the field.
