Sound Recording Technology
Your bigger goals include a career in audio engineering, production, or sound design. This pathway develops your musical and professional skills while cultivating a business-oriented awareness of the industry.
Composition for Media
If you are captivated by the music of film and video games, this pathway gives you countless opportunities to explore your musical creativity and learn what it takes to be a successful industry composer and arranger.
B.A. in Music (Tech Concentration)
If your goals extend beyond the studio into broader creative territory, the B.A. lets you customize your curriculum to explore specialized interests, connect studies across disciplines, and shape your artistic focus.
Compose your own musical journey and explore multiple areas of interest through the
Discover Music program! Work one-on-one with your Student Success Coach to map out your path to
graduation while playing in ensembles and making music. The Mary Pappert School of Music also offers a Minor in Music to any Duquesne student, regardless of major. The program consists of 15 credits,
7 of which are prescribed coursework and the remaining 8 are music electives.
The music technology program has allowed me to grow in ways I could have never
imagined for myself. I love this program for meeting where I am and pushing me to
be better than I was yesterday.

Student Perspective
The Intersection of Performance and Production
IEMMA
The Institute of Entertainment, Music, and Media Arts (IEMMA) is a unique interdisciplinary program that provides resources for students to learn all aspects of the entertainment industry. We help each student develop an entrepreneurial mindset that can, in turn, help them generate multiple revenue streams through their creative abilities in all media including performance, recording, producing, composing, engineering, managing, publishing and distribution, gaming, and more.
Recording Studio Ensemble
In the spirit of the notorious "Wrecking Crew," the Recording Studio Ensemble is built around gaining hands-on studio experience from the perspectives of the session musician, the engineer, and the producer. Students listen, read, interpret, and perform, as well as produce and engineer various genres of music, on the way to an understanding of how to be a practical, working musician and/or engineer in the recording studio environment.
