Financial Aid

Duquesne's Financial Aid office recommends applying for all scholarships, grants and Federal Loans before resorting to Private Education Loans. After pursuing all Federal Loans, you can research a Historical List of Private Education Loans that Duquesne students have used.

New Scholarship for Nursing Students

The newly announced QGenda-AACN Scholarship will be awarded to students in three categories: entry-level baccalaureate programs, accelerated programs for college graduates transitioning into nursing (baccalaureate and master’s), and graduate nursing programs (master’s and doctoral). To apply, students must complete an online application, provide demographic information and details on academic achievement, and submit a short essay outlining their career goals after graduation. Applications are being accepted now for the first award to be presented in July 2023.

Pittsburgh-Area Based Opportunities

The School of Nursing receives a number of scholarship notifications throughout the academic year from various local, regional, and national foundations and organizations. This information is forwarded to all students via email. It is the individual student's responsibility to apply for each scholarship if interested.

Jewish Scholarship Service of Greater Pittsburgh

The Jewish Scholarship Service of Greater Pittsburgh coordinates the efforts of a group of organizations, agencies and scholarship endowment funds that provide scholarships to local Jewish students enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education. JSS provides financial support to as many eligible students in our community as possible. Demonstrated financial need is a primary criterion in evaluating applicants. Financial information is considered along with other pertinent facts such as family size and the number of children/siblings in college.

The Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania

The Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania, a supporting organization of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA), will be accepting scholarship applications January 1 to March 30, 2022. The following scholarships may be of interest to Duquesne's accepted students:

Florence (Madden) Grady-Fasick Scholarship Fund: The Florence (Madden) Grady-Fasick Scholarship Fund is for nursing students in their second semester or more of nursing school. This endowment awards up to five students (up to $2,000 scholarships annually).

The Tubman Scholar Scholarship: The Tubman Scholar Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship for a Black student applying or already enrolled in a school of nursing. This awards up to $1,000.

Nurse Leader Scholarship: The Nurse Leader Scholarship provides scholarships to students demonstrating leadership skills in their pursuit of a nursing degree. Funds are for full-time nursing students in an accredited BSN, MSN, or doctoral program in Pennsylvania. This endowment awards up to two students (up to $1,000 scholarships annually).

Jack E. Barger, Sr. Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund: This fund provides scholarships to an undergraduate nursing student in Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania resident) who is at least one of the following: active duty service member; U.S. veteran; child/spouse of a U.S. veteran; or child/spouse of an active duty service member. This fund awards six students ($1,000 scholarships annually).

JoAnne Goss Memorial Nursing Scholarship: The JoAnne Goss Memorial Nursing Scholarship was formed in 2017 in memory of JoAnne Goss. JoAnne's family wanted to give back to the people that helped them during their darkest days: Nurses. This endowment awards up to four students ($1,000 scholarships annually).

Endowed Scholarships and Resource Funds

The School of Nursing has a growing number of endowed scholarships and resource funds that are available to undergraduate and second degree students each year who have completed 30 credits in their program of studies. Scholarships are awarded prior to the start of the academic year. Eligibility criteria vary for each scholarship or resource fund. Applications are made available to students in May of each year with a submission deadline of mid-July. Some of the awards are listed below.

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association, Inc.

Undergraduate scholarships are available to students currently enrolled in a state-approved nursing program leading to an associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, direct-entry master’s degree, RN to BSN/MSN completion, LPN/LVN to RN, or accelerated programs. Funds are not available for graduate study unless it is for a first degree in nursing. Complete the FNSNA Scholarship application for consideration.

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

Eligible nursing students can apply to the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program (Nurse Corps SP). If accepted, we pay your tuition, fees, and other educational costs. In return, you work at a Critical Shortage Facility (CSF) when you graduate.
