Legal Guardianship Documentation Required
Please submit official court documentation confirming legal guardianship. Acceptable
documentation includes a court order that specifically states legal guardianship has
been granted.
It is important to note that legal guardianship is not the same as legal custody.
Custody agreements, parenting plans, or informal care arrangements do not meet the
federal definition of legal guardianship for financial aid purposes.
If you are unsure whether your documentation qualifies, or if you do not have a court
order establishing legal guardianship, please contact the Office of Financial Aid
to discuss your situation and possible next steps. Federal aid eligibility cannot
be finalized until this requirement is resolved.
