We encourage all students to apply for the FAFSA to ensure consideration for all financial aid possible.  Duquesne’s school code is 003258. 

We have processed the student FAFSA information we recently received and financial aid award offers are being sent out to admitted undergraduate students. The Department of Education has information for checking your status and reviewing and correcting your FAFSA form.  

May 1 is the deadline for the PA State Grant application. Duquesne has a grant match program! Federal Student Aid will transmit your FAFSA data to the new GrantUs system. To ensure your PA State Grant information is sent to Duquesne, please list Duquesne first in your school list.  
 
Admitted students: Email notifications will be sent when your offer is posted in the financial planning section of the applicant portal. The complete package, including planning worksheet and next steps, will arrive in your mailbox shortly thereafter. 
 
Current students:  24-25 financial aid packages for current students are on time and estimated to be posted in your financial aid portal toward the end of April.

FAFSA Help

Create your Federal Student Aid ID

Both you and at least one parent should apply for a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID, which will be used every year on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and on Master Promissory Notes (MPNs) for federal student loans. If you're a current student and have previously submitted the FAFSA, you should already have an FSA ID. You will use this ID each year.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to determine your eligibility for need-based federal and state financial aid. Duquesne's school code is 003258. It is important to use Duquesne's school code to direct your application to the University once you submit your FAFSA.

The FAFSA uses you and your family's financial information to determine eligibility for need-based federal and state financial aid. Each contributor will need to fill out their part using their FSA ID (See Step 1).

New PA State Grant Application process

Starting with the 2024-2025 academic year, students no longer need to start a separate application for the PA State Grant. Instead, Federal Student Aid (FSA) will send your information to Pennsylvania's new GrantUs system when you submit the FAFSA. You will receive an email from PHEAA to the address you provided on the FAFSA about your next steps to complete the application for the PA State Grant. Financial Aid Process

Once we receive a FAFSA, the student who submitted it will receive an email notification. As of January 30, the Federal Student Aid announced that universities will begin receiving student FAFSA information in March 2024.

 

Optional CSS Profile

The CSS Profile may provide a more complete review of your financial circumstances than the FAFSA alone. The CSS Profile is not required, but many families may be interested in the option to submit it along with the FAFSA. (The CSS Profile does not replace the FAFSA for federal aid but can be helpful when evaluating special circumstances.) There is a fee to create a profile, but you may be eligible for the fee waiver. If your parents are divorced or separated, the Noncustodial Parent must complete a separate CSS Profile.

Frequently Asked FAFSA Questions

The FAFSA Simplification Act has made the application less complicated, expanded Pell Grant eligibility, and reduced previous barriers to completing the application to provide more access to more students.

FAFSA Changes

The Student Aid Index (SAI) replaced The Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The SAI is a calculation of how much financial aid may be awarded to meet the student's calculated need.
For families familiar with the FAFSA, you will now see the SAI instead of the EFC. Check out the Federal Student Aid Estimator to learn more about how much aid you may be eligible to receive.

The FAFSA Simplification is also introducing the term contributor - anyone who may be required to provide information on a student’s FAFSA form. Being a contributor does not imply responsibility for the student’s college costs. 

  • In the past, students and parents had to fill out the FAFSA together. Now each contributor will create their own FSA ID  to complete their parts of the FAFSA. 
  • A dashboard will help keep everyone on track with email notices sent to contributors. All contributors need to complete their part within 45 days or the FAFSA will be cancelled.
