Your Student Success Coach will help you develop and maintain your academic schedule, find resources to support your academic, social and spiritual development and work with you to navigate a successful campus life.

We strive to assist you with various aspects of your academic career while providing you with a strong educational foundation and opportunities to connect and build a network of colleagues through our School of Education's student organizations for you to join.

We are here to support you on your your journey as a Future Teacher and Educational Leader, providing support and connecting you to academic and career resources.

FAST

First-Year Advisement Summer (FAST) occurs the summer before your start your first year. This program welcomes you and your family to campus and offers essential insights and resources to prepare for your academic journey at Duquesne.

At FAST you will meet your Academic Success Coach and we'll set you up to start your college journey:

  • Connect with Future Classmates and Student Leaders
  • Interactive Sessions with University Support Services
  • Obtain Your Official DU Student ID Card and Essential Supplies
  • Engage with Residence Life and Commuter Affairs Staff
  • Set Up Your Student Bank Account with PNC Bank

Our Curriculum Center

Transform the learning and developmental experiences of K-12 learners inside or outside of the classroom through the resources in our Curriculum Center – a collection of PreK-12 educational resources designed to support schools and programs on campus working with children. 

Our Curriculum Center has endless resources for you to incorporate into your lesson plans and classrooms during field experiences, such as chapter books, picture books, big books, manipulatives, puppets and more! Additionally, the Curriculum Center provides resources to keep your classroom creatively informed during holidays and even for current events.

Located on campus in the Gumberg Library, the Curriculum Center's resources are available to the entire campus community, as well as to alumni.

To prepare for your field experiences and student teaching, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requires clearances to be submitted to our office. Our Office of Student and Academic Services guides you through this journey so you are ready for hands-on learning in the field.

Early Start Programs - Graduate Education Degrees

Our graduate programs offer early start options for School of Education undergraduate students, as well as all undergraduate students across the University. During your junior or senior year, you have the opportunity to take up to five courses in a master's-level program at the undergraduate tuition rate.

The School of Education offers early start options for students who have demonstrated a strong academic background (GPA > 3.0) to begin graduate work during their undergraduate time at Duquesne University.

Other undergraduate students across the University who are in good academic standing (GPA >3.0) and are interested in pursuing or exploring an education degree and/or a teaching certification can begin to take courses as juniors or seniors in our graduate teacher education programs.

Duquesne University Granted Premier Agency Status Through Public Safety Reaccreditation

The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) recently voted unanimously to reaccredit the Duquesne University Department of Public Safety and grant it the prestigious Premier Agency status, a designation reserved for only a select few law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth.

Student Organizations

Our School of Education offers multiple organizations for you to join. Joining these organizations allows you to gain new experiences, develop a professional identity, create research opportunities, and make new friends. By getting involved in one of the School of Education organizations, you will not only develop marketable skills, but will also enhance your college experience.

Chi Sigma Iota (Delta Upsilon Chapter) is an international honor society that focuses on academic and professional excellence in counseling. This organization offers opportunities for professional development, research presentation, and social gatherings for graduate students pursuing a career in counseling.
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization committed to improving the educational success of children with exceptionalities. This organization is open to all education majors.
The Duquesne University Student Education Association (DUSEA) offers members an opportunity to connect with the education community of Pittsburgh through service projects.
The Duquesne University Student PSEA is the student chapter of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). Their purpose is to provide a unified student voice in matters pertaining to teacher preparation and the education field.
Kappa Delta Epsilon is a professional fraternity engaged in the preparation of educators through the commitment to the Spiritan Mission and high academic standards.
Pi Lambda Theta is a national honor society of educators. The organization is a forum for exchanging and developing ideas, fostering individual leadership, and promoting professionalism. Invitations for membership can be given to undergraduate and graduate students who meet the requirement of a cumulative GPA of 3.5.
The Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children (PAEYC) is a branch of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This organization encourages all majors in the School of Education to come together to help various programs in the Pittsburgh area.
Student Affiliates in School Psychology (SASP) is a student-led organization geared towards keeping graduate students informed of the issues in the school psychology field and encouraging participation in professional development opportunities. In addition, SASP creates opportunities for collaboration and communication between students and faculty in an effort to create meaningful and lasting professional relationships within the field.
