Undergraduate Students: The Libermann Scholarship

International students who are accepted to Duquesne qualify for the Libermann Scholarship. Accepted students are automatically considered for the scholarship and do not need to apply. This is a merit-based scholarship based on your academic performance. The scholarship committee will look at your entire application and supporting documents to determine your award amount.

Students who receive the scholarship usually get between $9,000 to $26,000 per academic year. It is renewable for four years/eight semesters of study. Full scholarships and financial aid are not available to international students.

Graduate Students

Contact your graduate school directly to ask about funding opportunities. You can also read the graduate financing page. (Note: The Libermann Scholarship is only available for undergraduates.)

Other University-Based Assistance

Talent Scholarships: Every year, The School of Music recognizes talent by awarding scholarships based upon an audition.
Athletic Scholarships: Every year, The Athletics Department awards scholarships for both men's and women's NCAA sports.
Clergy Discount: Members of the clergy are given partial tuition remission on tuition for most programs, and Spiritans are given special funding opportunities.

Outside Financial Assistance

Private/Corporate/Government Sources: Many countries offer sources of funding as well. For example, governments (at various levels) and businesses will commonly fund a student's education if the training or the degree will serve a need or promote growth. Check with your country's government for business or guidance.
Sponsorship from the USA: The U.S State Department and a host of other agencies will often sponsor students if their countries are designated for such funding. Students should speak to the educational advisors at the bi-national centers, the U.S. Consulate, or the Embassy for information and guidance. You may also consult for a listing or various awards available to international students.

Alternative Educational Loans

Alternative loans may be an effective method of financing unmet costs of education for some students. The University recommends that students apply with co-signers to secure the best possible interest rates.

Although Duquesne University does not endorse any specific financial institution, you may visit this resource and select International from the dropdown menu for information on lenders our students have used in the past.

Students are not limited to these lenders and are free to choose any financial institution to borrow an alternative educational loan. Duquesne University recommends that students starts the alternative education loan process after July 1 prior to the start of the fall semester.

Working On Campus

Students in F-1 and J-1 status may work on campus for less than 20 hours per week. There are a limited number of positions available.
